How This Finder Works
The finder computes the real position of the Moon and the eastern horizon at your exact moment of birth using the Astronomy Engine (VSOP87) library — the same engine that powers this site’s daily Panchangam — and applies the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the sidereal correction officially used by the Indian Calendar Reform Committee and by standard Telugu Panchangams.
Janma Nakshatram — the one of the 27 Nakshatras occupied by the Moon at your birth. The sidereal zodiac (360°) is divided into 27 equal Nakshatras of 13°20′ each.
Padam (Pada) — each Nakshatra is split into 4 quarters of 3°20′. Your Padam fixes the traditional first syllable of your name.
Rasi — the Moon sign, one of 12 signs of 30° each. In Vedic tradition your Rasi is set by the Moon, not the Sun.
Lagnam — the sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth time and place. Because it moves through all 12 signs in a day, the Lagnam is the most sensitive to an accurate birth time and location.
Accuracy note. Your Nakshatram, Padam and Rasi depend on the Moon, which moves about one Padam every ~6 hours — so an accurate time of birth matters, especially near a boundary. Your Lagnam changes roughly every two hours and also depends on the place of birth. For births outside India, choose “Other location” and enter the coordinates and the UTC offset that was actually in effect at birth (including any daylight-saving time). This tool gives the standard computed values; for ritual or matching decisions, confirm with your family purohit.
